Hill Top Class

Hill Top Class

Welcome to the Hill Top Class!

We are Nursery and Reception! Our teacher is Miss Butler and we are supported by the wonderful Miss Macdonald, Mrs Shaw, Miss Winters and Miss Chalmers.

Our classroom is set up with a variety of areas including, reading, writing, home corner, playdough and art. These areas are changed regularly so that the children are able to access a wide variety of resources depending on the topic focus (or children’s interest!) that week.

Hill Top Class also have access to a covered outdoor area and a large spacious playground outside. Outside the children enjoy using the water, mud kitchen, climbing frame, sand and construction area where there are large materials such as tyres, wooden planks and crates to build with.

A typical day in our classroom looks like this…

We start our day by self-registering, Reception then choose a story to read and share whilst Nursery enjoy exploring and investigating the classroom provision. We then all enjoy our morning ‘together session’ on the carpet, singing songs, dancing and story time.

Reception then have their daily phonics session with Miss Butler, whilst Miss Macdonald supports the Nursery during free choice within the classroom. Reception and Nursery then enjoy the wide variety of learning opportunities both indoors or outdoors.  During this time, Miss Butler and Miss Macdonald spend time modelling to the children how to access and engage with the resources.

In the afternoon the children enjoy a variety of different adult led carpet sessions where the children take part in the weekly story sack activities, followed by energetic activities such as, music, singing, dancing or drawing. Reception then take part in their daily maths session, which is always hands on and practical – we like to use our great outdoor environment to cement learning and give ‘real world’ context for the children to embed their learning.

We love to end the day with a story before we all get ready for home and share what we have been up to.

The curriculum we follow looks like this…

We follow the non-statutory guidance, Birth to 5 Matters, which is underpinned by the four principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework:

  • A Unique Child
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • Learning and Development

Full details of these aspects can be found here for free: Birth to Five Matters

Every child in Hill Top class has their learning documented using the on-line platform, ‘Evidence Me’, where every aspect of a child’s learning journey can be followed by parents through the ‘Evidence Me’ App.

Miss Butler regularly uploads ‘wow’ moments to keep all of our parents fully updated on what their children have been learning.

We are always pleased to welcome visitors to Hill Top Class so, please feel free to come and see what we are all about and the great start our children at the very start of their learning journey!
