Bluebird Class

Bluebird Class

Bluebird class is a class for children aged 7-9 years old (Year 3 and 4). Our teacher is Mrs Culbert and Mrs Myers helps us a lot of the time too – they are really kind and help us learn. Our classroom is really bright and spacious – it is actually split into two parts – which means we can tackle our learning in lots of different ways, often with different groups of children. This makes our learning fun and meaningful because it fits what we need each day – and that doesn’t need to be the same all of the time.

When we come in, we say good morning to everyone and go through the plan of the day. Each morning we usually do Maths and English (which includes reading, spelling, times tables – all of the things that help us learn the rest of the stuff). Most Wednesdays, we have Learning Forum, where we work as team with the rest of the school to improve how our school works.

In the afternoons, we focus on our topic, which means we get to connect the learning between different subjects that fit together and answer big questions, related to environmental or social issues in our community, country and world. Our PE sessions are often linked to House Sports competitions, which prepare us for the different Cartmel Cluster events we are involved in – being part of a team helps us feel like we belong and helps us develop our resilience and communication. It is great when we go on trips or visitors come in (this happens most half terms) – it means we all have a shared experience to learn from and connect our learning to.

Every year, we either get to go on a city trip (linked to our topic) or on a residential. These help our learning, our independence and help build our friendships (as well as seeing and doing new and exciting things!).

At the end of every day, we all join Collective Worship. This is a good time to reflect on the day, think about people or ideas from the bible and decide how we might be a role model for others the next day.
