Free online courses for teenagers, parents-to-be, parents, carers and grandparents:

Just a reminder to check out for FREE (prepaid) access for all parents and parents-to-be, carers, grandparents, those working with children and young people and teenagers themselves to some really useful and interesting online courses.  These cover the below topics:

Courses for Parents, Carers and Grandparents: use the access code: WORDSWORTH

  • Understanding your pregnancy birth labour and your baby
  • Understanding your baby
  • Understanding your child
  • Understanding your teenager’s brain
  • New course – Understanding your child with additional needs

This online course is for parents with a child with additional needs. It is for parents, relatives and friends of children who may have a physical or learning disability or who may have autistic traits. This course is in 2 sections. Level 1 lays the foundation for understanding your child. Level 2 looks at some particular aspects of parenting: sleeping and anger management, together with more about how we interact with each other. Understanding this can make it easier to work with your child’s behaviour as well as supporting their development.

This means every single Cumbria parent/carer can access the courses completely free of charge!

These courses are for ALL parents-to-be, parents, grandparents or carers of any child from the antenatal period to age 18 years. Families don’t need to be struggling to do these courses. They are also available in other languages and are also relevant to parents/carers of all children, including those with special needs, autism, ADHD etc.

We would also recommend that practitioners also complete the courses to have the best understanding of how they work, what is covered etc.

Course for Teenagers: use the access code: WORDSWORTH

  • ‘Understanding your brain (for teenagers only!)’

This short course pairs with the short course for parents Understanding your teenager’s brain, so that both parents and teenagers have access to the same information.

Sustainable Warmth Cumbria Grant Information

FREE Funding up to £25,000 for Energy Efficiency measures through Sustainable Warmth Cumbria

The Sustainable Warmth phone line is currently operating on an answering machine only basis. Your enquiries are important to us, and a member of the team will get back to you as soon as possible. Retrofitting is a long process that we know can be frustrating to those who are waiting, but any additional information can be found here on our website.

We can help eligible households to access a government grant to install energy efficient products into homes across Cumbria regardless of which local authority area you may live in. This scheme is supported by all 6 District and Borough Councils in Cumbria. These improvements will make homes warmer and more comfortable whilst helping to lower energy bills and carbon emissions. The Sustainable Warmth Cumbria scheme encompasses the Green Home Grant Local Authority Delivery Programme Phase 3 (LAD3) and Home Upgrade Grants (HUG1).

The funding aims to boost the local economy to retrofit a minimum of 1,310 owner occupied and privately tenanted homes with energy efficiency installations and low carbon heating. Projects that upgrade homes with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of E, F or G will be prioritised. Upgrades to properties with an EPC rating of D will be limited.

If you are interested in learning more, please get in contact with us at Eligible owner-occupied households can receive grant funding between £10,000 to £25,000 depending on your property and your heating type. Owner occupiers do not need to contribute any money themselves. Landlords of privately rented homes may also be eligible for funding up to £5,000 subject to a contribution of a third of the cost of the measures.

Act quick! Apply today! This is a time limited scheme.
