Class 2 & Reception Church Visit

23/06/17

To learn more about the different areas of the church and what they are all for, the children from Reception and Class 2 walked through the village to be given a tour of the Church of St. John the Baptist by Revd Rach. We all came with questions to ask and things to find out!

After Revd Rach’s enthusiastic and informative tour, we were given the challenge to find as many of the church features on our checklist as possible. We worked in small teams, and were also asked to reflect upon and record our impressions as to how the church made us feel.

After answering our questions, Revd Rach took us out of the church down the vestry staircase. We were excited to visit this previously unseen part of the church! Thank you Revd Rach, we learnt a lot from our visit!

Easter Service

31/03/17

An early Easter Service this year, which saw all of our children contributing different elements to proceedings. Reception and Class 2 performed a retelling of the Easter Story with actions, and Class 3 performed an Easter acrostic poem. Class 4 dug a little deeper, exploring the theme of Salvation and its relevance to Easter time. We had the chance to sing to of our favourite hymns, I’m Gonna Jump Up and Down (Be Happy) and Hosanna, and Rev. Rach closed our service with a prayer. She may have also received a special treat in the shape of an egg!

End of Term Christmas Service

20/12/16

Our Autumn term came to a close with our Christmas service, held at Church. We sang traditional carols and some of the newer songs we performed recently in our Nativity production. Rev. Rach encouraged the children to consider the true meaning of Christmas, which we all know is a celebration of the arrival of Jesus Christ on Earth! We also had the time to award all those children (and staff!) who have so far managed to maintain their 100% attendance!

Harvest Festival

29/09/16

This year’s Harvest Festival was a lovely service, with each class performing a different sketch on a harvest theme. Class 2 performed their specially composed Harvest poem, replete with a beautiful artwork each to illustrate their words! Class 3 sang and acted out Pharoah’s Dream Explained from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Class 4 then demonstrated how the letters spelling out HARVEST can be rearranged to spell out other important words: EARTH, STARVE, SHARE and HEART. Thank you to all the many parents and family members who accompanied us to church, making this a true service for all the community.

End of Term Easter Service

24/03/16

Due to the poor weather, we couldn’t hold our end of term service at St. John the Baptist’s Church as intended. We didn’t let this stop us undertaking our worship and celebrating the arrival of Easter however! We sang three hymns: Give Me Joy in My HeartBe Still in the Presence of the Lord (led by the school choir) and Bad Times Won’t Last. In between these, we were treated to Class 2 performing the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, and many of our children joined together to explain to us the importance of the Easter story. Finally, both Alice and Rev. Canon Nick Ash led us in closing prayers.

After our service, we celebrated those children which have managed to maintain their 100% attendance record this term. Well done everyone!

Thank-you to all the parents and family members who took time out from their day to come and be a part of our worship. We appreciate you being here to support your children and the school. Everyone at Flookburgh CofE Primary School hopes our community has a lovely Easter holiday!

End of Term Christmas Service

18/12/15

Our Autumn Term came to a close today with a lovely service held in Church. We sang carols from our Christmas production and one of our favourite hymns, Here I Am To Worship. Interspersed between the songs were festive readings from Nate, Tyler, Evie R, Evie C, Tia, Megan and Holly. We also celebrated all those who were recognised for entering Tim Farron’s Christmas Card competition, including Ebony whose entry came second out of all the entries received! Finally, we recognised all those children which have so far maintained a 100% attendance record for this academic year. Here’s hoping they all keep it up!

Trefoil Guild Christmas Service

14/12/15

To forge links with the local branch of the Trefoil Guild, we were invited to be a part of their Christmas Service at St. John the Baptist Church. The Trefoil Guild is involved in supporting Rainbows, Brownies and Girl Guides, groups to which many of our children belong. We sang a mixture of traditional Christmas Carols and songs which we have been preparing for our school Christmas production. Many Guild members commented on how beautifully our children sang; it was lovely to have our voices heard and appreciated by the wider public!

Harvest Festival

06/10/15

We have now had our first visit of the school year to St. John the Baptist Church in the village! Our school community gathered in worship to celebrate harvest time. Led by the Rev. Canon Nick Ash, each class presented a harvest themed piece during the service. As you can see in the last photo, our children kindly donated many foods which have now been distributed to the needy in our local area. Thank you all for your contributions!

Easter Service

27/03/15

Our Easter Service in our local church, St. John the Baptist, was a super and fitting end to the Spring term.  Many thanks to all those who walked with the children to church, enjoying the sunshine and friendly chatter along the way!  The children performed and sang beautifully; it was lovely to be joined by so many of our parents, carers and extended family to celebrate altogether.
